On 20 May 2024, the Launching Ceremony for the Implementation of Shanghai Enterprise ESG Standards and the First North Bund Forum on Urban Sustainability was successfully held at Magnolia Plaza in Shanghai. Haiwen’s partner Julia Zhang attended the event on behalf of the firm. The event was organised and sponsored by Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, Shanghai Municipal Market Supervision and Administration Bureau, Shanghai Municipal State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, Shanghai Hongkou District People's Government, Shanghai Federation of Economic Organization (Shanghai Federation of Industrial Economics), Shanghai Research Centre of Modern Urban Science, Green Technology Bank and other various organisations.
This event marked the official launch of the implementation of the Shanghai Enterprise ESG Standards. The Guidelines for the Preparation of Corporate Environmental, Social and Governance Reports and the Evaluation Guidelines for Corporate Environmental, Social and Governance Reports♌, which were launched and implemented this time, were prepared through in-depth research and discussions by many authoritative experts from various relevant fields, including law, environment and economy, organized by the Legal Special Committee of Shanghai Federation of Economic Organization. Haiwen has always been paying special attention to the development of the ESG legal practice area. As the leading export of the drafting committee, Julia Zhang actively participated in the compilation work and was appointed as a think tank expert of the sustainable development project.
As the first enterprise ESG report preparation and evaluation standards in Shanghai, the standards will help enterprises establish a disclosure framework system, clarify core disclosure indicators, solve the problem of missing key standards, and provide guidelines for enterprises to carry out ESG governance. At the same time, the standard will be implemented by large-scale state-owned enterprises in Shanghai, which is expected to play a role model in demonstrating and leading the standards, drive more enterprises to carry out ESG governance with unified standards, and gradually form the influence of the indusඣtry. In the near future, the drafting committee will continue to prepare and issue three standards, namely the Guidelines for the Preparation of Enterprise Carbon Neutral Roadmap Action Reports, the Guidelines for the Evaluation of Enterprise Carbon Neutral Roadmap Action Reports, and the River and Ocean Plastic Recycling and Recovery Certification Standard, in order to promote the fulfilment of corporate social responsibility and the promotion of green and sustainable development.
